Jabbing with Jacoby: ‘I want to give readers an athlete’s perspective on their great work for the community.’

Kristopher Jacoby is Right Down Euclid’s go-to intern as he begins his sports media career by studying at the University of Mount Union this fall.

Hey everyone, my name is Kristopher Jacoby. I am proud to announce that I will be a part of the Right Down Euclid team moving forward. I am grateful for the opportunity given me to help pursue my lifetime goal of being a sports journalist. I look forward to doing quality work for the Cleveland fanbase as we share the same love for our favorite teams.

I grew up not too far from Canton, Ohio while moving occasionally. This fall I will be a student at the University of Mount Union with the plan of being a Media major. As for my writing, I started a few years ago when I published a few articles for Phenom Media. I took a few years off to focus on my academics, but when time opened up this summer, I had a few articles published on a friend’s Wix site.

On Instagram, I have managed @clecentral_ the past few years providing Cleveland sports content to help me grow a following.

Why is independent journalism important to you?

Independent Journalism is important because it allows people to form unbiased opinions on current events. There is no influence from the government or big corporations regarding independent journalism. With major corporations having their issues by firing/laying off their workers, there is no better time to get into independent journalism. Instead of hiding the big issues, independent journalists will pay attention to them and make their voices heard. Which can also help provide a voice for communities in much-needed times.

How will you change the scope of coverage in your desired field?

I plan on changing the scope of coverage by writing about player performances and team news and bringing attention to the issues that mean more than sports. For example, athletes bring an impact to society with community work. This topic should be covered and put out to the public each time an athlete impacts the community. I am glad that athletes want to talk about the injustices that go on throughout the local communities and be able to provide hope for families in need. I want to be able to give readers an athlete’s perspective on their great works for the community.

Why does covering how things are covered in Cleveland drive you to work for and with Right Down Euclid?

Covering Cleveland sports news brings a lot of excitement for me. I have been a lifelong fan of the Browns, Cavaliers, and Guardians and have dreamed of becoming a sports journalist since I was ten.

Working for Right Down Euclid will allow me to gain experience in the sports journalism field and have a bond with the city and its people. I want to give fans someone to relate to and strongly connect with the three local fanbases. Going to games and being able to have a big group to connect with is what inspired me in the first place to be a reporter.

After all, it circles back to the fans who deserve great media coverage of their favorite teams.
